Historical data availability
On-chain data is stored unindexed and unstructured in the dispersed event logs. Therefore, the historical data on the blockchain is not available. A smart contract can never access any historical data from 1000 blocks away from any smart contracts, including its own transaction logs.
Cross-chain/platform data monopoly
In the traditional web2 world, large Internet companies controlled user data in their own servers, over-collected users' personal information, monopolized users' data on a single platform, abused algorithms, violated users' privacy, and formed data silos. Today, web3 users generate large footprints on multiple blockchains and different application platforms, while on-chain data is unindexed and unstructured, thus resulting in low availability of cross-chain data, not even to mention trustless interoperability.
Data capability for complicated analysis
Despite the technical advantages of blockchain in terms of data security and user privacy. At present, the data capacity on the blockchain is limited, because we don’t have an algorithm-friendly data layer and cannot implement a recommendation algorithms similar to the Web2 world.
